Our Editorial Process

The New Georgia Encyclopedia (NGE) has developed a thorough process to ensure that the encyclopedia remains an accurate, complete, and unbiased resource on all things Georgia.

Our Editorial Process

Content Audits

We routinely audit NGE’s content to identify gaps in our coverage and ensure our entries reflect the most recent research.

Article Commissions

NGE articles are written by scholars for a public audience, and we regularly solicit new entries.

Editorial Review

All articles are reviewed by experts and rigorously copy edited before fact-checking.

Fact-Checking

New articles are thoroughly documented and fact-checked by University of Georgia librarians.

Content Updates

Our editors continually update site content and encourage readers to submit feedback.

Editorial Style Guide Updates

Our style guide is periodically updated to reflect the evolution of language, usage, and historical understanding.

Contributor Guidelines

All topics for new entries must receive advance approval from NGE editors. Entries will not be published without a signed contract. To submit a new topic for approval, please complete our contact form.

The New Georgia Encyclopedia is used as a basic reference for general readers with a wide range of interests and needs. Entries should therefore be easily accessible in terms of language and content.
